More than 30 homes in Newtown will be hitting the market on a shared ownership scheme that is one of the first of its kind in Powys.

Maes Dulais is a new 68-property development with a mix of shared ownership and social rented housing on the outskirts of Newtown.

Housing association Barcud, which developed the Llanidloes Road site near the Newtown Bypass, is releasing 31 homes under the shared ownership scheme.

People interested in the new homes are welcome to visit the development at an open day from 9am to 1pm on Saturday (October 5).

Ranging from one to four-bedroom homes, eligible buyers are able to purchase between 25 per cent and 75 per cent of the market value, while paying a proportion of the market rent for the remaining share.

Built by SJ Roberts Construction and sold by Morris Marshall and Poole, each home boasts an ‘A’ EPC rating, fitted out with energy efficient technology from solar panels to air source heat pumps, reducing energy bills and the carbon footprint of each household.

Barcud's Alex Dawson said: "The scheme, one of the first of its kind in Powys is aimed at enabling first time buyers and families the opportunity to get onto the housing ladder".

Bryan Jarman, of Morris Marshall and Poole, added: "The flexibility on ownership between 25 per cent and 75 per cent, with the option of purchasing 100 per cent in time is a fantastic initiative and opens the door to home ownership for first time buyers".

People who are interested in the properties are encouraged to contact Morris Marshall and Poole’s Newtown office in Broad Street for more information on eligibility requirements and details of the homes on offer.
