Colleagues, friends and family have taken part in a fundraising walk in memory of a popular 39-year-old who "lived life to the full".

The Walk for Matt event was organised to celebrate the life of Matthew Jones who died from an underlying congenital heart problem, which he had since birth, in January this year.

The fundraising walk for the British Heart Foundation was held along the coast between Borth and Aberystwyth on Friday (September 27) followed by raising a glass of his favourite tipple in his memory.

Zoe Muscroft worked with Matthew at Nidec in Newtown. Paying tribute to her "well-respected" colleague, she said: "Matthew lived his life to the full, despite his condition.

"He followed his favourite football team, Manchester United, both at home and away. This included a memorable trip to the Champions League final in Moscow. He also travelled extensively, holidaying several times in the glamour of Las Vegas."

Zoe and her colleagues at Nidec have smashed their £500 fundraising target after donors pledged £2,600 to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in Matthew’s memory on the dedicated JustGiving page.

Zoe added: “The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK, but sadly everyday hundreds of people lose their lives.

“It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist.”
