IT IS good to see Newtown high street showing signs of life again.
However, before we crack open the champagne I think we need to grasp the nettle and accept Newtown will never be the same again.
Much of High Street remains like a ghost town and Broad Street is only kept alive by non rate paying charity shops.

When was the last time anyone said they were going to Newtown to do their shopping? Rather than basics, it is impossible to get most of what you need.
I do not subscribe to knocking national chains for competing with extortionately priced independents either. If you look about Newtown you will see it is not the national chains who have abandoned the town centre.
