A POWYS man has admitted assaulting his former partner in front of their son and punching a hole in the wall at her house following their break-up.
Shane Lock, 32, entered guilty pleas to assaulting his ex-partner and causing criminal damage when he appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 25.
Lock, of Tecla, Llandegley, committed the offences on June 24 at a property in Llanddewi.
Prosecutor James Ashton told magistrates: “He and his partner had split up a few weeks prior to this incident.
“At the time she was in bed and woke up to the defendant in her bedroom, screaming and shouting at her.
“She was struck by a mirror to her shin and he punched a hole in the wall.”
Mr Ashton said Lock admitted in police interview to both offences. He added that Lock had some previous convictions, including criminal damage from 2023.
Pat Matthews, defending Lock, said the victim and defendant had been in a relationship for five years.
“It is always difficult breaking up," he said. He wasn’t represented in interview but admitted the offences, saying he acted inappropriately.”
Magistrates adjourned the case, telling Lock they could not punish him without a pre-sentence report being prepared.
He will return to court on October 15. His conditional bail – which prevents him from contacting the victim or another witness, and from attending the Old Mill, in Llanddewi – will continue.
