AN independent takeaway food delivery service aiming to reach similar status to giants such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat – but in rural Powys – is expanding in the region.

Munchala announced in early 2021 that Llandrindod Wells was going to be its pilot location for launching a service to bridge the gap in rural food delivery and showcase just how many great places there are to eat in Powys.

Now, three years later, the company is ready to grow and is targeting Builth Wells eateries.

“Exciting news. Munchala is ready to expand and bring our successful takeaway delivery platform to Builth Wells,” read a Facebook post on the Munchala Llandrindod Wells page, posted on Monday (September 23).

“For the past 3.5 years, we've been serving up delicious meals in Llandrindod Wells, and now we want to bring the convenience of food delivery to your area.

“But we need your help. We can't do it without the support of local restaurants in Builth Wells.

“If you know of any amazing restaurants in Builth that should be a part of Munchala, tag them below and show them how much demand there is for food delivery in the area.

“Let's make sure everyone can enjoy their favourite meals from the comfort of their own home.

“And, if you're a local takeaway in Builth, we want to hear from you. Reach out to us to discuss your options and join our growing family of restaurants.

OTHER NEWS:

“Together, we can make Builth Wells a hub for delicious, convenient food delivery.”

Munchala is an on-demand food delivery service that has built up a base of eight clients in the spa town since it was launched.

These include Indian restaurant Zeera, the Fish Bar (chippy), Golden Dragon (Chinese), Brunch Box (burgers, breakfast and more), Gino’s pizzeria, Super Dinner (Balti, tandoori, kebabs), the Hampton Bar & Grill restaurant and the Culinary Genius Kitchen (private chef).

Two more are rumoured to be joining soon.

As well as Builth, Munchala director Scott Davies is also targeting expansion elsewhere, with Rhayader on the cards too.

“Munchala was created out of a desire to address the lack of food delivery options in rural areas, and our success in Llandrindod has only strengthened our resolve to expand and serve even more communities,” said Scott.

“We are excited about the potential in towns like Rhayader and Builth Wells and remain committed to our mission of bridging the gap in rural food delivery.”

Judging by the response to Monday’s post, residents in and around Builth and Rhayader are keen to get food from their favourite takeaways, pubs and restaurants more conveniently.

The White Horse, The Drovers, Kebab 2000, Georgie Porgie's Coffee Stop, China Kitchen, Indian Ocean, Burger King and The Diner/ Maria’s Munchies were all tagged by Builth residents.

In Rhayader, meanwhile, one poster said they’d be keen to see Evans Plaice, Turkish Delight, Spice Hut, the Lamb & Flag Inn, the Castle, the Eagles Inn, The Crown Inn and the Triangle Inn all come aboard.

Munchala confirmed that delivery would cover a 4-5 mile radius of Builth to start off with, while Llandrindod residents would be able to order from Builth eateries, but a delivery charge would be added, based on distance.

One poster said “You need to come to Rhayader,”, to which Munchala responded “This is definitely on the list. Tag them here to get in touch and if there is enough interest from the owners I will open [in] this area.”
