More than 200 high performance cars joined a huge convoy around some windy Powys roads for this year's Mach Run.
The annual fundraising event that sees owners of cars join a lengthy convoy, starting from Machynlleth, returned for its 2024 event on Sunday, September 22.
Despite some less-than-ideal weather, the event still drew plenty of drivers and spectators, raising £8,000 for its chosen charities, adding to the £30,000 the Mach Run has managed to raise since the event began in 2018.
Cars gathered at Maengwyn car park, giving spectators a chance to see all the vehicles up close, before setting off on their tour through Penegoes, Cemmaes, turning left at Cross Foxes, passing Tal y Llyn lake, driving through Tywyn, Aberdyfi and Pennal before arriving back in Machynlleth at 3pm.

Mach Run founder Jason McAuley said: “It was a really good event, despite the weather. We’d been given a yellow weather warning on the day so I was a little nervous over what the turnout would be, but we managed to miss the worst of it. We didn’t get hit with any rain until we were well on our way with the convoy, so I’d say we had about two and a half hours of dryness and one hour of rain.
“We had around 200 cars so it was really busy. We also had lots of footfall this year, which we’ve been trying to increase for the past few runs now, so it’s good to see we’re engaging more with the general public.
“We have lots of people coming down to take part on the convoy from all over the country so it’s good to make the community of Machynlleth feel really involved with the event.
“This year we had live tracking of the convoy, which I think helped spectators plan exactly when to come out and see everyone go by. It’s especially helpful in this weather as we wouldn’t want people standing around in the rain and even with a schedule, a convoy this big can’t help but run a little early or a little late.
“I was braced for a quieter day given the rain, but it was brilliant once again. I’d like to thank all our marshals and volunteers who were fantastic.
“It’s hard work putting on an event of this size, but I already know I’ll be back again next year for another run.”
