A Powys pub and restaurant that re-opened after a lengthy closure earlier this year is now re-opening its kitchen with an all new menu.
The Cock & Wok, formerly known as The Cock Hotel in Forden, is re-opening its kitchen and food services after temporarily closing them for some “internal staff changes” while the business welcomed customers back following its lengthy closure.
The 17th century pub re-opened in August 2024 as its new owners Pippa Hunter and Chef Michael Tan took up the task of running the Mid Wales pub and restaurant, rebranding the pub as a mix between Southeast Asian food and a traditional Welsh pub.
With a new coat of paint and new approach, the pub welcomed customers back on August 31, but soon after announced it would be temporarily closing its kitchens.
Writing on social media, a spokesperson for the business said: “We regret to inform you that our kitchen will be closed for the rest of the week due to some internal staff changes. As a new business, these changes are inevitable as we work to build the best possible team to serve you.

“The pub will remain open for drinks, and we look forward to welcoming you back for food service soon.”
A few days later the business announced that food services were returning to the newly re-opened pub, as well as unveiling a new menu.
They said: “We’re thrilled to announce that our kitchen is reopening this Thursday (September 19) with an all-new, upgraded menu.
“From classic favourites to delicious new dishes, there's something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds.”
The new approach in the kitchen comes less than a month after the revamped business opened its doors after a lengthy closure. The old business, formerly The Cock Hotel, was hit by a kitchen fire that took fourteen firefighters to extinguish, and was then put up for sale in March 2024 with an asking price of £350,000.
A week after re-opening under a new name, the owners added: “A massive thank you to everyone who’s visited The Cock & Wok so far.
“We've loved hearing your thoughts, and we're over the moon with the amazing reviews you've left us. It's been brilliant to see so many of you enjoying what we’ve created.”
