Two councils have responded after a mystery person placed an A-board in a Newtown street accusing them of turning it into a "ghost town".
Powys County Council and Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council have responded to the claims made in a sign put up in the town centre last week.
The sign was placed on Ladywell Street, and read: “Welcome to the Ghost Town that is Newtown. Thank you Powys County Council and Newtown Town Council. Great work!”
The councils have been the centre of criticism for difficulties faced by town centre businesses, particularly Powys County Council’s recent rise in parking fees.

In response to an enquiry by the County Times, Powys County Council Council said it was determined to helping town centres across Powys thrive.
A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “The council is committed to working with our partners and communities to ensure that our town centres remain relevant and resilient – now and into the future.”
Newtown Town Council was also robust in defending its record and said the town was made by the people in it.

A spokesperson for Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council said: "Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn is not immune from challenges facing towns so thank you for the opportunity to remind ourselves that fundamentally it's people who make places.
“Everyone can play a part whether individually, or collectively through elected representatives, successful businesses, or voluntary organisations.
“If someone is devoid of ideas of how they can do so they need only to look at the community's own Place Plan (https://newtown.org.uk/consultations/placeplan.html) which was put together by the community for the community, and illustrates the very wide range of good things being done by good people who try their best to try to make Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn the very best place they can."
