A local artist and former teacher’s legacy will live on after he left a significant donation to an animal welfare charity supporting dogs in Eastern Europe.
Les Jones, from Cwmbelan, Llanidloes, who died in November 2023, has given a large sum to Friends of Moldovan Strays (FOMS).
The charity, which looks after cats and dogs in Moldova, has used the money to fund new pens and a dog run at its shelter near Chisinau.
The shelter, which has more than 400 dogs, is one of the only animal charities in the area.
Rob Ford, the CEO of Heritage International Schools in Moldova and one of Mr Jones' former students, said: "Les loved his own dogs and cats all his life, he believed in compassion for animals, our own social responsibility and this is very much something he wanted to do in his memory."

Mr Jones supported education in Moldova in his later life, giving regular lessons about Wales, its culture, art, language and speaking to students online, from his home in Cwmbelan, even when he turned 90.
The two UK founders of FOMS, Jane Sumner and Debbie O'Connell, praised Mr Jones' legacy support for the animal shelter.
Swansea-based Ms O'Connell said: "This is in loving memory of Les, whose kindness lives on in every animal he helped protect at the FOMS shelter.
"They cannot speak for themselves but with our compassion and support we can be their voice."
