The Unicorn Hotel in Llanidloes is searching for new tenants after the shock liquidation of the previous business.

Kevin Jones, who owns both the Minerva garage in Llanidloes and the Unicorn Hotel building, says he is looking for people to take on the tenancy of the hotel after the previous tenants CL Davies Leisure went into voluntary liquidation last week.

Mr Jones has said that he is looking for new tenants to take over at the well-loved hotel as soon as possible.

“We are looking for a new tenant to take on the hotel as soon as possible,” said Mr Jones.

“We are looking for someone to take on the business in the long term as it is the sort of venue that needs that – we are looking for a permanent solution.”

The news of the business at the hotel ceasing trading left the town in shock, with many left concerned for the staff.

This came after CL Davies Leisure went into voluntary liquidation at the beginning of last week  (September 2)

Long time Llanidloes councillor Gareth Morgan said the news came as a “shock”

“The business seemed successful,” said Cllr Morgan. “It was maintained to a high standard with excellent food service and accommodation.

“It is sad to see it happening we could do without the bad news.”

Fellow Councillor Glyn Preston said his “thoughts go out to the staff who have lost their jobs, at a very difficult time for many.”

The closure has left some customers in the lurch with reports online that the previous tenants are “not notifying guests who are already booked” of their sudden closure.
