Despite being unused for several years, an old hotel in Machynlleth was still playing host to someone as police found a man sleeping inside the abandoned building.

Dyfed-Powys Police officers found a man sleeping in the disused Glyndwr Hotel in Heol Y Doll in response to reports of a break-in at the abandoned building.

At around 4.30pm on Saturday, August 24, police received a call from a member of the public who had noticed someone leaving through a window. The caller also informed the owner of the building.

Police did not arrive at the scene immediately as they had deemed the situation was not a risk to the public because the person had left the hotel at the time of the call. However the incident was logged by police for a follow up visit.

During a visit by officers, police found a man sleeping in the former Glyndwr Hotel, having gained entry to the premises by damaging a door.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police received a call reporting a man leaving the disused Glyndwr Hotel in Machynlleth at around 4.30pm on Saturday, August 24.

“The caller had informed the owner of the building, who asked for police to be notified.

“As the person was no longer at the hotel and there was no risk to members of the public, the incident was logged for follow-up by local officers, with a request for any further suspicious behaviour to be reported.

“On police attendance, a man was found to be sleeping in a building at the hotel, having gained entry by damaging a door.

“The owner did not support further police action, and was supportive of an adult community resolution by way of an apology for damage caused to the door.”
