THE annual Builth Bike Bash, which has been running since 2011, will be taking on the challenge of riding the distance of all the Paris Olympic Games events this year.

That means riding travelling a total of 701 miles this Sunday, September 8.

This does not just mean the cycling events, but all the events with a measurable distance; these include swimming, rowing, athletics, triathlon and modern pentathlon, plus the four different cycling disciplines – mountain biking, road cycling, track and BMX racing.

The Builth Bike Bash is a free to attend community cycling event that encourages people of all ages to dust off their cycles and come and join in.

OTHER NEWS:

There will be loop marked out around The Groe and each lap ridden will be recorded and added to the total.

All cyclists will receive a free gift; this year it is an eye-catching recycled aluminium water bottle and at the end of the day there will be certificates for everyone.

The event runs from 11am-4pm on Sunday. The first hour is reserved for the wobbly cyclists who have a 0.5 mile lap. From 12-4pm there will be a 1-mile lap set out and the cyclists can ride as many or as few laps as they want.

Bonna Williams, one of the organisers, said: “Come along and help us smash our target at this fun community event. Why not bring a picnic and make a day of it.”

Paige Rowland, from Cycle-tec, the local bike shop, will be bringing along some spares and accessories, and will be offering riders a free bike check.
