A charity antiques valuation event has collected £200 in donations for St Peter’s Church, Machynlleth.

The event took place on Friday, August 30 and saw professional antique valuators, Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley and Alexander Clement from Halls Fine Art, Shrewsbury, provide professional judgements on the worth of a variety of items.

The charity event welcomed more than 30 locals, who each made a £2 donation to the church for each of their valuables getting valued.

Among the vast collection of items, Ms Lineker-Mobberley received jewellery valued at an estimated £1,000 to take for auction.

Among the jewellery was a Clogau gold pendant, a chain, and a heart-shaped amethyst pendant, worth up to £300.

Alongside this was a Waterloo medal set worth between £1,500 to £2,000, which had been inherited through the owner's family.

A gold watch Albert, valued at around £500, was also presented.

Church members served tea and coffee to attendees throughout the day.

Rev Miriam Beecroft praised the event's success and atmosphere saying: "We were very pleased with how the valuation event went and it was good to see a lot of people coming through the door.

"There was a lovely atmosphere in the church.

"I discovered that a communion set that I inherited from my former vicar dated from 1895 which was a surprise and a chalice and paten from the church dated to the early 1700s. It was a fascinating and educational event."
