The Llanfair Caereinion Show returned for its 51st year in an event that has left the organising committee “very happy”.

As crowds flocked to the showground for the 2024 Llanfair Caereinion Show on Saturday August 29, they were met with a variety of attractions, trade stands and agricultural competitions for the event.

Show organisers placed more of a focus on “smaller” attractions this year to spread around the show, but said they were still “very happy” with the overall turnout.

She secretary Rhianon Jones said: “It was a very well attended show. From what we an tell the numbers were similar to last year. The showground was busy and bustling for the entire day and well into the evening. It wasn’t until midnight that the field was finally clear of visitors.

“We were lucky with the weather, a beautiful day sandwiched between two wetter ones, so plenty of people came out to support us and we hope all of them had a good time.

“Almost 12 months of planning goes into putting a show like this together. Once one show is over, we start looking into the next one right away. We hold a postmortem meeting on this year’s show at the end of the month, then it’s onto what we can do for next time.

“It’s a lot of work but on a day like Saturday you look around and that makes it all worthwhile.

“We got plenty of good feedback from those who attended. We put more of a focus on little events around the show ground this year than just our main arena shows. We wanted it to be more spread out, as large arena attractions are an expensive business, so we made the decision to pull back slightly and make things more spread out.

“There was still plenty in the main arena though, like the ever popular children’s races and the Welsh axemen who created a lot of excitement.

“There was a very good turnout in the horse section, especially as our 2024 show president Des Oliver is also president of the horse section, as well as lots of sheep entries and a completely full produce tent. We’re still very much an agricultural show at heart.

“We’re grateful to all our trade stands, who really make the show what it is. Overall we’re a very happy organising committee.”
