A popular Newtown bar and bistro has closed its doors to customers for the final time.

Based in Parker’s Lane, The Granary, which was known as Mirrens, closed on Thursday (August 29).

Owner Anna Cooperwhite thanked customers for supporting the business over the years, adding that the decision to close was made earlier this year.

“It’s been one hell of a ride, filled with many highs and lows, but we will always look back on this venture with happiness and pride,” she said.

The lease for the party and entertainment venue, which was last listed in the Michelin Guide in 2019, is now for sale with a price tag of £35,000.

In a statement posted on social media. Anna said: “It may not come as a surprise to many, but it is with a heavy heart that we are now announcing that The Granary has permanently closed its doors.

“This decision was made at the beginning of the year, and after months of deliberation and trying to find the right words, we are finally ready to share this news.

“We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout our journey, from the days when we were known as Mirrens to our time as The Granary.”

Anna added: “Although our chapter has come to an end, the story of The Granary doesn’t have to. We are currently in the process of selling the lease and are waiting for the right person, with the right passion, to take the reins.

The Granary’s unexpired lease is being sold through Harry Ray & Co, which described the bar and bistro as “very attractive”, and comes with comfortable living accommodation, "excellent" appointed kitchen, preparation room and stores, with private beer garden at the rear.

The Welshpool-based estate agents added that the sale is an opportunity to set up a successful business in a conveniently location just off the town centre.
