The Heart of Wales railway line between Llanwrtyd Wells in Powys and Shrewsbury has now reopened after a train came off the track on Tuesday.

A team from Network Rail had been working on site overnight to rerail the train which came off the track at low speed outside Llandrindod Wells, and to carry out repairs to the damage caused by the incident.

Transport for Wales has confirmed that services will be running along the railway line today (Wednesday) apart from the 15.17 and 17.01 services between Llandrindod Wells and Shrewsbury with rail replacement buses "currently being sourced".

Train journeys along the Heart of Wales line between Llanwrtyd Wells and Craven Arms were cancelled on Tuesday (August 28) after one of the wheels came off the track near Llandrindod Wells Railway Station.

It was confirmed that no one was injured during the incident.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, Network Rail said: “At around 7.30am this morning, one of the wheels of the 05.22 Shrewsbury to Swansea service came off the tracks at low speed just outside Llandrindod Station.

"Services on the Heart of Wales line are expected to be disrupted for the rest of the day.

"Trains from the south will shuttle between Swansea and Llanwrtyd, while buses will replace trains between Llanwrtyd and Craven Arms.

"The cause of the incident is being investigated."
