An area of a woodland path in Powys town that's popular with walkers has been vandalised less than a month after repairs were carried out by volunteers.
The fencing along a path in Deri Woods in Llanfair Caereinion has been damaged which a group of people who help manage the wood described as “vandalism”.
On Monday, August 26, Friends of Deri Woods revealed that fencing on the lower path near the river had been damaged, with several sections being broken and two points being left in a “dangerous” condition.
Writing on social media, the group said: “Someone has gone along the whole bottom path smashing anything slightly weak or insecure. Two sections are now dangerous so hazard tape has been put across the gaps.

"The Friends of Deri Woods volunteers give up their time for free for the benefit of the community and like having things to do but this is ridiculous, it will take a couple of days to repair all the damage.”
The damage happened after the group carried out a series of repairs along the lower path’s fencing a few days earlier, on August 19. A team of nine volunteers repaired several sections of fence along the Deri Banwy riverside path, using at least eight new rails and fence repair near the Taliesin sculpture.
Repairs to the fencing had to be completed earlier this month after a tree branch fell onto the path and fence on August 6, leaving the path passable but a little hazardous to walkers.
Volunteers were at the site a few days later with chainsaws to chop up and remove the fallen branch, and repair part of the fence that had been broken by the impact.
Following the vandalism in the woods, some Friends of Deri Woods volunteers have been to the scene of the incident and assessed the damage, but the group noted that it could take a few more days for repairs to be carried out.
