KNIGHTON’S rugby club has thanked organisers and supporters who turned up for a memorial match earlier this month, in honour of Joe Baker.
On August 10, Tref-Y-Clawdd RFC hosted Ludlow in the Joe Baker Memorial Cup.
Joe, who was just 20, died in a road traffic collision near Yeovil, where he was stationed with the Royal Navy, on November 27, 2023.
He was a helicopter engineer who played both rugby and football for his hometown club.
There was rugby, music and food throughout the day, with an auction and raffle also held after the game in aid of Help For Heroes.

“The club would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who came down and supported such a great day,” said a spokesperson for the rugby club, with Tref-Y-Clawdd going down to a 33-10 defeat.
“A special thanks goes to Sparks Disco, Knighton Plaice fish and chip shop for supplying the food and tunes for the day.
“We would also like to thank Ludlow RFC for the way they left the changing rooms, they were absolutely spotless.”
“To everyone who contributed to the auction/raffle and worked tirelessly throughout the day, we couldn’t have done it without you so a huge thanks there too.”
Man of the match, chosen by the Baker family, was Seb Barrett. Try scorers for the home team were Evan Lee and Ashleigh Lewis.
