Work to repair a road that collapsed along the A470 in north Powys is set to be completed by the end of the year
The road collapse happened on the A470 in Talerddig between Carno and Llanbrynmair in November last year, leaving behind a large hole along the edge of the road.
While work has been taken to make the road safe and open under traffic management, Montgomeryshire Senedd Member Russell George has been raising the issue with the Welsh Government, calling for more urgent permanent repairs to be carried out.
In a response to the Senedd Member, the Cabinet Secretary for the Economy and Transport, Ken Skates MS, conformed that the detailed design for the permanent repair to the wall had been finalised, and that work was currently programmed to start in October.

Mr George said: “I have had update on the for repair works to be carried out on the Trunk Road at Talerddig following the road collapse in November last year.
"The Cabinet Secretary has confirmed to me that the detailed design for the permanent repair to the wall has been finalised. Work is currently programmed to commence in October for completion this calendar year.’’
Mr George added: “I have also taken up further road safety issues at Talerddig following accidents near the junction to the Bont Dolgadfan road and by Tyrpeg.
“There is a need for road safety improvements to address the dangers of the layout of this section of the road.”
The road was shut for nine days when a section of it collapsed due to heavy rain, forcing some motorists on a 66-mile detour.
It re-opened with a traffic light system put in place alongside temporary safety barriers being introduced, as well as repair work to the embankment.
Shortly after the collapse, the Welsh Government confirmed it had been aware of defects in the A470 more than a year before the collapse of the side wall that left the road closed.
At the time, a government spokesperson said: “Regular monitoring work picked up minor defects prior to July 2022 but these were not considered a risk to the carriageway.”
