A FAMILY of seven were rescued in Powys this week when wet weather hit and temperatures dropped significantly.

Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said they were called to assist in a rescue when they received a call from Dyfed-Powys Police on Wednesday, August 21.

The rescue involved locating a family of five children and two adults, who had got lost during a walk from Tafarn y Garreg to Llyn y Fan Fawr, south of Sennybridge, at 4.10pm.

“We were called by Dyfed-Powys Police to locate a family who had got lost on a walk from Tafarn y Garreg to Llyn y Fan Fawr,” Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said in a statement on its Facebook page.

“The weather had changed and mist and rain made visibility reduced and the temperature had dropped significantly from the morning.

“The team responded and requested assistance from (the) Maritime and Coastguard Agency rescue helicopter.

“Fortunately, the family of two adults and five children were located quickly by team members. The family were not well equipped for the weather and despite being soaked through were in good spirits and walked back to the RV.”

The team has asked members of the public to be prepared when out in the wilderness.

"Ask yourself when you venture out in the hills these things: Have I got the right equipment for changing weather?; Have I got a map and compass and can I use them?; Have I checked the weather forecast and do I have time to complete the planned route before it's dark?"
