The cast of an iconic BBC sitcom will be returning to Welshpool as part of the Powys town’s upcoming 1940s Weekend.

Cast members of the popular 1980s sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo will be making an appearance at the 2024 Welshpool 1940s Weekend, returning to the event for the second year in a row.

Guy Domville Siner, Kim Lesley Hartman and Richard Gibson, known for playing Gruber, Helga and Herr Flick will be in Welshpool mixing with revellers and signing autographs during the event, which will be held from Friday, September 27, to Sunday, September 29.

‘Allo ‘Allo was created by David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd, that was broadcast on BBC1 from 1982 to 1992, depicting a French café owner in the town of Nouvion, during the German occupation of France in the Second World War.

As the local Gestapo officer Herr Otto Flick, David Gibson served as one of the sitcom’s main antagonists.

Guy Siner, best known for his role as Lieutenant Hubert Gruber, has also featured in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and David Lynch’s surrealist horror film ‘Lost Highway’.

Best known for her role as Private Helga Geerhart, Kim Hartman has also acted in classic BBC dramas like ‘Casulaty’ and ‘Grange Hill’.

All three actors appeared at the 2023 1940s Weekend, which saw hundreds of people turn out to see number of attractions in the form of historical re-enactors, vintage vehicles and a 1940s themed funfair.

Speaking about the event, Welshpool 1940s Committee Chairman Alan Crowe said: “The 2023 1940s Weekend went very well, an excellent event that I can safely say was our biggest and best event yet.

“Despite the rain, we had a big crowd, with plenty of people dancing and enjoying themselves right to the end of each day.

“We received some very good feedback from all who attended, including one gentleman I spoke to who has attended every one of Welshpool’s 1940s Weekends, and I was very happy to hear him say that he thought the 2023 event was the best one yet.

“The cast of ‘Allo Allo were an absolute treat, and I think everyone really appreciated having them here.”
