The Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown will be closed for six months for a £1 million refurbishment.
The contemporary art gallery will be closed from mid-September until spring 2025 while it undergoes redevelopment that will allow more national collections to go on display.
Money from the Arts Council of Wales will see various work being done to the building including the roof being replaced.

The Oriel Davies Galley has been located in the town centre since the 1980s but the new development will allow the gallery to display work from national galleries for the first time in Powys.
A spokesperson for Oriel Davies Gallery said: “Exciting times are ahead as the gallery is having significant Welsh Government investment through the Arts Council of Wales.
“Almost £1m is being used to improve our infrastructure, security, environmental controls and replace the roof as we become a partner in the National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales, with the National Museum and The National Library of Wales.
“This investment will enable us to bring works from the national collections to Newtown to display alongside contemporary visual art.
“We will continue our work in the community during this time."
