Newtown High School is celebrating another set of successful A-level exam results.
Acting headteacher Natalie Havard said: “I’m just always really proud of all of our students and their achievements and they deserve all the praise.
“Today is all about them so I wish them well on their next steps and I really hope they get the future that they all deserve."
Outstanding results from students include Marianne Despres-Davies (A*AAA) who has deferred her plans to study medicine at Cardiff University as she heads off to Paris for a year to volunteering with the Red Cross. Alanah Blayney (AABC) intends to study to Psychology at Cardiff University and Dylan Owen (AABD) will study Business Economics at Cardiff University.

Also celebrating results day was Dylan Ramirez. He spoke basic English when he joined Newtown High School as a Year 8 pupil after moving to Powys from Spain. Now he’s going to study chemistry at the University of Birmingham after smashing his A-level results with an A*AB.
Charlotte Richardson (ABC), from Newtown, will be going to work in HR at Powys County Council. Speaking about doing her A-levels, she said: “It’s been quite stressful but I’m glad it’s over now. I have enjoyed my time here but I’m happy to now move on with my next stage in life”.
Other notable performances at AS level include Francesca Humphreys (AAAA), Elle Evans (BBCC) Katie Benbow (AAC), Lucy Powell (ABB) and Halle Trigg (AAB).
Francesca said: “I am just amazed after all the work I put into them in May. I’m super happy to see the results on paper now.
“It was definitely a big step up from GCSE, but the teachers were super helpful and we special lessons about how the best way to study and that really helped”.
Mrs Havard added: "It was a pleasure to see the students collecting their results today and achieving some outstanding grades.
“I would like to thank all of our school staff who have worked tirelessly in supporting our students through their studies. Their hard work and continued efforts have clearly paid off.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and carers whose support has helped our students to achieve so much.
"Good luck to all of our students as they embark on the next stages of their education, careers and future. We wish you every success.”
