Students and staff at Llanidloes High School celebrated “exceptional” A-level and wider post-16 results today (August 15) with every sixth former getting into their first-choice university.
Headteacher Daniel Owen said staff were “absolutely over the moon” and “thrilled to bits” that more than a third of all grades were an A* or A
In recent years, Llanidloes Sixth Form has appeared in The Sunday Times top ten sixth forms in Wales. Mr Owen said the school hopes to have achieved this feat again.
“We are deeply proud of our wonderful Sixth Form students,” he said.

“Many have secured places at Russell Group universities, some are starting apprenticeships, others are taking a gap year to carry out voluntary work or travel, and a few are starting exciting employment opportunities.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our fantastic staff team for teaching and supporting our students so effectively. Their hard work and professionalism have yielded another stellar set of results that eclipse national averages and many fee-paying private schools.
“We have, once again, underlined the importance of local sixth forms in rural Powys.”
Head of Sixth Form Mrs Jerman and assistant Dr Simon Creasey congratulated students on their “superb” results.
“We’re so proud of you all and wish you well as you move onto exciting new pastures,” the pair said. “Please pop in, or get in touch, to give us regular updates on how you’re getting on”.
Lewis Jones said he was he’d put in a lot of hard work and is chuffed with his Distinction * and three As but “happy it was over in the end”.
Freya May said he was “very happy” with her three A*s but is “so relieved” that her A-levels are over.
Notable results include Head Girl Ffion Pal (A*A*A*A*) who will go on to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bath; Freya May (A*A*A*) who will read English Literature and History at Durham University; Alice Turner (A*A*AA) will head to Lancaster University to start her Law course.
Niamh Geere (A*AA) will study Nursing at Swansea University; Kate Jones (A*A*A) will do Midwifery at Stafford University; Gwennan Jones (AAAA) will read Law at Cardiff University; Lewis Jones (Distinction*AAA) and Joe Thomas (AAA) are taking a gap year.
Freya Watt (Distinction* AAB) will study Crime Scene Science at Teesside University; Isla Harrison (A*A*B) will do a degree in Zoology; and Llion Hamer (Distinction* ABC) is heading to Wrexham University to start his Football Coaching and Performance Specialist course.
