A charity is set to receive more than £6,500 from a rural insurer.

NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the Maldwyn Agency in Newtown recently nominated Ponthafren to receive the donation from NFU Mutual’s national £1.92 million Agency Giving Fund.

The fund was launched by the leading rural insurer to help frontline charities across the country.

Now in its fifth year, the fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25 million funding pledge for both local and national charities in 2024.

The fund aims to assist charities with the ongoing recovery from the pandemic and to help tackle the impact of the rising cost of living.

The donation will allow Ponthafren to provide at least 260 hours of counselling, helping at least 37 people in desperate need of their services.

Last year, the charity counselling service saw a 48 per cent increase in referrals.

Robin Green, impact and governance manager at Ponthafren, said: "Thank you to the team at NFU Mutual for the donation which will go towards our counselling service, which supports some of the most vulnerable people in our community including young men, people with unresolved historic trauma, and those recently bereaved by suicide.

"Ponthafren receives only £5,000 funding specifically for counselling so you can imagine how far a donation of £6,500 would go to helping us consistently provide a much-required service."

Tina Morgan, agency manager at NFU Mutual Maldwyn Agency, said: "We’re extremely proud to have nominated Ponthafren for this donation and are delighted to be able to support the vital contribution they make to our community.

"NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund was first created in 2020 in response to the pandemic, and this ongoing support is helping to change lives, providing both emergency support and building long-term resilience."
