Emergency crews conducting a search of the River Severn in Welshpool have found a body, police have confirmed.
Earlier this evening Dyfed-Powys Police said a multi-agency search was under way for a person missing in the river off the Leighton road in Welshpool.
Now it has been confirmed that a body has been recovered.
An update from Dyfed-Powys Police read: "Following a multi-agency search in the River Severn, Welshpool, sadly, we can confirm that a body was recovered at around 8pm.
"Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
"Emergency services remain in the area and ask that members of the public stay away whilst enquiries continue.”
The force added that no further information was being released at present to respect the family's wishes.
