Has the NHS changed its motto? We were under the impression that its motto is “Patients come first in everything we do”.
Well those sentiments seem to have gone astray if the powers that be intend to stop Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital being used as a hospital for its local residents.
Drs Graham Davies, Brittain and Rees would turn in their graves if they knew what was being proposed and what on earth would Matron Carruthers have to say about the plans being considered for her hospital?

When a patient is recuperating or requiring palliative care, they don’t want to be hospitalised miles away from their families and friends; and, let’s not forget that generations of Idloesians raised funds to have a hospital here and have continued down the ages to support it with generous gifts in wills and donations.
What has happened to the welfare idea of putting people first? Each and everyone of us may need to fall back on the services of our hospital.
How dare these people who don’t even live in our area, sit around tables busying themselves proposing plans for the future status of our hospital and put forward to the public such iniquitous twaddle.
Llanidloes is a town right in the heart of Wales, far removed from any of the large general hospitals and these people have the nerve to attempt to inveigle us into believing that closure of our hospital is just a temporary measure.
If this is allowed to happen it will surreptitiously become permanent.
If the NHS in Wales is so starved of funds and urgent action needs to be taken, may we make a few suggestions:
1. The proposal of increasing Senedd members by an additional thirty six members should be scrapped. Why on earth does Wales need more Senedd members; it’s unnecessary and an extortionate additional expense. We certainly don’t need any more government officials lining their own pockets.
Instead plough that much needed money into our NHS; and,
2. Give our doctors, nurses, physiotherapists etc a fair salary, which in the long run will be hugely beneficial and bring the medical professionals back into our NHS rather than having to rely on employing from agencies at astronomical expense. And, finally;
3. For goodness sake bring matrons back to police our hospitals.
