New double yellow lines in Llanidloes town centre have been slammed by local councillors who say the restrictions are driving people away from the town and causing "extreme difficulties" for businessowners who have been left in tears.
China Street near the town's iconic Old Market Hall is one of several streets in Llanidloes which have new parking restrictions which came into force earlier this year.
Powys County Council traffic officers made the wide-ranging traffic regulation order on Monday, June 10 using powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
It followed a request for a review of traffic in the town by Llanidloes Town Council.

At a town council meeting held on Monday, July 22, Llanidloes councillors raised concerns from members of the public including business owners.
Liberal Democrat Powys County Councillor for Llanidloes Gareth Morgan described the new yellow double lines as "not good enough" adding that it was "spoiling" the town and "driving people away", while deputy mayor Cllr John Hughes added that the extra lines had "surprised" people.
The council agreed to have a meeting to discuss the new parking restrictions and invite Powys County Council portfolio holder Cllr Jackie Charlton and Chris Lloyd.
"Another point that amazes me and causes me concern is the double yellow lines along all the shops from China Street Chapel to the corner of the Market Hall," Cllr Morgan told the meeting.

"Now they've added extra bits; it restricts loading and unloading. They cannot get anything delivered.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but I did not see any of this contained in the proposals before this town council when it was discussed two years ago.
"It's extremely difficult for the shops. I've had one shop owner on the phone in tears. She said it was really impending on her business enormously. So much of her stock is brought in a huge vehicle and parked outside and then you have the official from the council out with his book and pen."
Llanidloes' other Liberal Democrat county councillor Glyn Preston told town councillors that he didn't want the issue to become a "frenzy".

"I don't want lots of people in town upset about double yellow lines however they are sensible to either protect pedestrians or allow emergency services through," he said.
"I don't want it to be a free for all to remove yellow lines. It's gone through a formal consultation process.
"We need to be clear which lines specifically the Town Council thinks need a new traffic order laid and we need to decide which ones need to be amended now. Reopening the whole issue will be a total waste of time and end up upsetting people."
