A Newtown nursery that was suddenly closed six weeks ago to ensure children's "safety and wellbeing" has been told that it can reopen next week.

Canbee Curious Day Nursery, which cared for up to 50 children from babies to seven-year-olds, was forced to close from June 20 after Care Inspectorate Wales suspended the early years setting's registration.

Owner and manager Amy Coney said she was "so relieved it is all over" and the nursery can welcome back children and staff from Monday, August 5.

Care Inspectorate Wales told Amy that the grounds for suspension "are no longer met" following a panel meeting on July 29 which considered the concerns raised about the Mochdre Industrial Estate nursery.

The details of the suspension have not been revealed.

Amy said: "It has been the hardest five weeks I have ever had to endure in my 10 years of owning a childcare business, and I am still struggling to come to terms with how devastating and malicious this has been.

"In recent times the quality of people coming through to work in the sector is not at a standard it should be, staff recruitment and retention is at an all-time low across the country with trust, work ethic and performance at its worst."

She claimed that the nursery had been "targeted", and described it as "a lovely setting that is used by the community".

She added: "We have no previous concerns reported before this, and we had a glowing CIW report back in May 2023."

Amy added: "I am so relieved it is all over and we can now continue with a great team to provide high quality childcare for all our wonderful families.

"I cannot thank everyone enough for all the kind words and support over the last five weeks."

A spokesperson for Care Inspectorate Wales said: "CIW made the decision to lift the suspension of the registration of Canbee Curious Day Nursery, Newtown, from midday on 29 July 2024.

"CIW will continue to liaise with the provider and Powys Local Authority to ensure the quality and safety of the service.

"It is the provider’s responsibility to make arrangements to inform parents and carers."
