A man and woman have admitted trashing a flat by drawing graffiti on walls in every room and leaving bloody sanitary products on the floor.

Welshpool Magistrates' Court was told that the bath had been defecated in and the toilet was left "full to the brim" inside the flat at Camlad House, Forden between September 21 and October 30 in 2022.

Scott Redgrave, 31, and Eva Lewin, 27, both of no fixed abode, appeared in court on Tuesday, July 30, to plead guilty to criminal damage to the property belonging to UCYL which runs the Abhedashram Meditation Centre in the village near Welshpool.

Their solicitor Owain Jones told the court that they pleaded guilty on the basis that the financial amount of damage, which the prosecution claims is around £15,000, was disputed by the pair.

Redgrave, who was wearing a black jacket and his hair tied up, appeared in the dock alongside Lewin who wore a cream cardigan, round-rimmed glasses and had colourful hair.

Prosecutor James Ashton told the court that the Crown's position was that the case was not suitable to be dealt in the magistrates' court because it was "primarily in excess of your sentencing powers“ of more than 12 months. He added that the "likely" starting point is 18 months immediate custody.

County Times:

Sarah Sargent, chair of the magistrates' bench, told the pair: "We do not feel our powers are sufficient therefore we wish this case to be sent to the crown court."

The pair were given unconditional bail to attend their next hearing which was fixed for August 22 at Mold Crown Court.

Mr Jones, solicitor, told the magistrates that despite the pair not having a permanent address, "they’ve been in regular contact in email," while they have been "moving around".

Mrs Sargent warned: "If you don't appear for whatever reason their trial will go ahead, and you will be sentenced in your absence."
