An application has been made for further works on the controversial Llanerchydol Hall that appeared on Channel 4.
The owners of the Grade II* Llanerchydol Hall near Welshpool have submitted a new application to create a health and wellbeing retreat in a significant part of the property.
The application looks to start work on a long list of work including “internal and external alterations, creation of covered porch, repair/rebuild perimeter brick garden walls, re-cover/repair woodstore roof, creation of a hardstanding/car-parking area.”
The owners are also looking to change the use of the “west wing/ground floor of east wing into a health and well-being retreat; and works to Registered Historic Park and Garden”.
In a Design and Access statement they argue the plans fit with the Welsh government’s aim for rural areas to be “sustainable and vibrant rural communities” and “support sustainable, appropriate and proportionate economic growth.”
They have added that some of the works would be retrospective.

The owners had previously put the plans forward in 2023 but were rejected due “to insufficient information having been submitted to fully assess the extent of the works on this grade II* listed building, contrary to policy and guidance, and that in the absence of which, they would harm its character and historic fabric.”
The hall was the focus of the Channel 4 show ‘Help! We Bought a Hotel’ which followed them as the made attempts to renovate the Grade II* listed building.
However the hall has been the source of controversy since they took over.
Powys County Council issued a stop notice after unauthorised works were reported at the site after being refused planning permission by the council.
At the time cabinet member for a Connected Powys, Cllr Jake Berriman, said: “The planning department is aware of unauthorised works at Llanerchydol Hall.
“An initial site visit was made last summer by the Built Heritage Officer where the owners were advised to stop all works.
“Planning and Listed Building applications have been submitted for the site but were refused in June. A temporary Stop Notice was served by the council’s enforcement officer on the June 14 2023.”
