A POWYS man accused of assaulting a police officer has had his name cleared after the case against him collapsed.
Benjamin Cheyanne Chesterton, 32, had always denied one offence of assaulting PC Michael Clements, a Dyfed Powys Police officer, on December 12 last year.
Chesterton, of Lewis Place, New Radnor, initially appeared at appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court in January, where he denied assaulting PC Clements.
He elected to have his trial heard at the crown court and, at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Friday, February 2, he maintained his not guilty plea.
A 3-day trial was due to start in Merthyr on June 4 but Merthyr Crown Court confirmed this week that the prosecution offered no evidence against the defendant during the pre-trial phase, on March 25, 2024.
