A Powys pre-school is celebrating after getting a perfect report from Estyn
Cylch Meithrin Cylch yn yr Ysgol, a Welsh medium pre-school based at Builth Wells County Primary School received excellent from Estyn in all areas – the highest rating that can be given to any pre-school.
The pre- school was praised by inspectors as a place where “kindness is celebrated consistently as children and practitioners recognise each other's qualities”.
In a statement to the County Times, the setting staff, Estelle Wilcocks, Sonia Tighe and Carys Price said: “We were thrilled with the feedback in the report. We have amazing children and families to work with and would like to acknowledge the support we have received from Linda Jones, our Powys Advisory Teacher and Olwen Jones of Mudiad Meithrin.
“We appreciate the strong partnership we have with Builth Wells Primary school and would like to convey our gratitude for their invaluable support.
“We would especially like to thank Builth Wells Primary school headteacher, Mr Gareth Cornelius, for his support as RI and allowing us to continually draw upon his knowledge and expertise. All staff and management work extremely hard, and it feels fantastic to be recognised for this”

The pre-school is run under charity status, by a voluntary management committee, welcoming children aged 3- 4 years for up to 10 hours per week of funded education.
The staff are set for more recognition nationally – reaching the finals in at the Mudiad National Awards – with Sonia Tighe up for Welsh Learner of the Year and Michelle Davies up for the Friend of the Cylch Award.
Estyn Inspectors also found that “Practitioners provide excellent care and support, and they have developed an effective, warm and natural relationship with the children.
“They praise them regularly for their efforts, celebrating their achievements enthusiastically. Practitioners interact excellently with the children.
“They know the children very well and respect their interests, preferences and personal needs”
“Leaders have a strong vision that is firmly based on ensuring provision of the highest standard for the children in their care.
“The provision continues to go from strength to strength, under the inspirational leadership of the leaders and the skilled team working with them.”
Cylch Meithrin Cylch yn yr Ysgol has now been invited to write a good practice report on working in partnership with others, which will be shared on the Estyn website to support other settings across Wales.
