A free re-enactment of Admiral Nelson’s Navy will be going off with a bang in the grounds of Gregynog Hall this weekend.

Re-enactment society HMS Wales will be bringing to life the soldiers, sailors, and civilians of 1805 to the beautiful surroundings of the historic building near Tregynon.

The free event takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, 28.

Visitors can learn about life in Nelson’s Navy, experience the fire power of the Age of Sail and perhaps sing a sea shanty or two.

The Gregynog Hall café will also be open from 10am to 4pm  daily but not serving ships’ biscuits.

HMS Wales was started in January 2020 by three friends who were experienced Napoleonic reenactors.

The group portray a landing party of the Royal Navy, featuring various pieces of equipment and the crew perform a wide range of roles from a ship’s company.

The re-enactment society returns to Gregynog Hall following a practice run in March. 

People in the area had been pre-warned not to panic about "strange bangs" coming from Gregynog Hall.

The Trust that runs the historic building shared that police had been informed and that firing would be well away from livestock.
