Powys food producers were showing off their latest creations at this year's Royal Welsh Show.

The food hall at the show is an annual chance for the best food producers in Powys to display the latest takes on their classics.

Multi award-winning, Bee Welsh Honey had a new honey being showcased for the first time in three years.

Shane Llewellyn-Jones, who has been making honey for 35 years, said: “This season has not been great as it has been a very poor summer so far, so that has had a massive effect on the honey crop.

“But we have a new honey – a lime honey from the lime trees on the Gro in Builth Wells. We only took it off last week. It’s going down really well.”

Morgan’s Brew Tea, based in Welshpool were showing off their 54 varieties of award-winning tea alongside their new gin range using tea flavouring.

“People don’t often understand that you can use tea as an ingredient so the easiest transition is to mix it with alcohol or a soft drink so that is how we started with the gins,” said co-owner Geoff Meredith.

“Over the last six years we have used three or four distillers and tried 105 combinations of tea. We worked with North Star distillery in Colwyn and this is what we have come up with. We have oolong and blackcurrant, a green tea and fruit, an oriental cherry and a rose and vanilla.”

Fellow Welshpool company Get Jerky were having great success with a new product on their stall.

“We are launching a new product called salt beef which is beef slated in brine,” said Get Jerky’s Emma Morris. “It is a softer product that we are selling in bread rolls today with some mustard and pickle.

“Along with that we have our six different varieties of jerky – it is good to be back at the Royal Welsh again this year.”

Gasm Drinks from Montgomery, whose Great Taste Award winning sloe gin and sparkling wine blend, was being launched in a new can after customer feedback.

Founder Richard Davies said: “We started five years ago, we launched at the summer show. The idea is a sparkling wine infused with fruit gins, at a lot of sporting events we used mix sloe gin and champagne and we thought why can’t this be put in one bottle - it was easier said than done.

“Then for this show we have gone into cans as customers have said they can’t take glass into festivals and could we produce a can.”

Heartsease Farm who work with Radnor Hills in Knighton were also at the show promoting their new flavour range.

“It’s all sourced produced and manufactured at our site in Knighton," said Craig Gilson. “We have two new flavours the apple and pear, and the apple and rhubarb which are going down really, really well.

“The apple and pear which is my personal favourite has just a really fresh crisp kind of flavour.”
