A family near Newtown are celebrating after their first win at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
Simon Hughes was celebrating with his wife Ellen and daughters Ashlee and Nancy after they picked up three rosettes in the British blue category yesterday (July 23).
The family run a farm near Adfa outside Newtown and were delighted to pick up their awards on the first morning of this year’s show.
Their prize bull picked awards for first in class and overall champion as well as an award for best male livestock exhibitor.

“I have been farming all my life, he has the male champion for the British blues, we are very pleased,” said Simon.
This was the first set of rosettes for the family at the Royal Welsh Show, but not the first this year as the winning bull picked up a string of awards earlier this year.
“This our first male champion at the Royal Welsh Show,” said Simon “But this year he has had four shows and four male champions – he’s doing alright.”
Simon has been farming all his life but according to Ellen has only started entering shows in recent years.
“This was only the third time he had entered,” said Ellen.
“He got first in his class, best male livestock exhibitor and overall male champion - we only started entering in 2019.”
