A mum of two from Newtown who "never spared love" died when a car travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on with the family car, an inquest has heard.

Renata Anna Sumiga was just 38 years old when she was travelling back home to mid Wales from Cardiff when a car driven by university student Mia Price veered into their lane on the A483 south of Newtown between Llanbister and Camnant on March 16, 2022.

Price, who couldn't remember what had happened, needed surgery and suffered neurological injuries.

She was sentenced to a 12-month community order and banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to Ms Sumiga's death by careless and inconsiderate driving in March last year.

The documentary inquest into Ms Sumiga's death closed on Thursday, July 18, at Pontypridd Coroners' Court.

The coroner concluded that the Polish-born Nidec line operator died as a result of a road traffic collision with brain and neck injuries at the Royal Stoke University Hospital on March 21, 2022, five days after the crash.

Ms Sumiga was a rear passenger when the Cardiff University student's Toyota Yaris entered the lane of oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the family car at around 7.34pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2022.

Ms Sumiga was taken to hospital, but she had suffered a laceration to a critical blood vessel which deprived her brain of oxygen and tragically her condition continued to deteriorate until she died.
