A LLANWRTYD Wells man will appear before magistrates at the end of the month to be sentenced for numerous offences, including racially abusing local shopkeepers.
Darren Hopwood, 52, had admitted four charges in total and appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 17, via videolink from prison.
Hopwood admits racially aggravated intentional harassment against both Didar and Dillbahar Singh in separate incidents in Llanwrtyd.
The first occurred at the town’s Premier Stores and involved Didar Singh on November 16 last year. The incident relating to Dillbahar Singh occurred on May 28 this year.

Hopwood, of Irfon Terrace, Llanwrtyd, has also admitted two counts of criminal damage. The first involved him breaking windscreen wipers belonging to a vehicle owned by Mr Singh on October 22 last year.
The second occurred on November 16 where Hopwood spat in a Dyfed Powys Police van.
Magistrates heard this week that the case could not proceed as the probation service had not yet been able to arrange a meeting with Hopwood in order to conduct a pre-sentence report.
Sentencing was delayed until July 31. Hopwood is due to attend again via videolink as magistrates further remanded him into custody until that date.
