One of Wales’ leading innovation businesses has opened a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing and office building in Newtown as part of its global expansion.
Mochdre Industrial Estate-based manufacturer, CellPath, specialises in the manufacture and supply of equipment and services used in cancer diagnostics.
Following its takeover in 2022 by American owners StatLab Medical Products, a leading manufacturer of medical diagnostic supplies and equipment, CellPath has received “substantial” investments to increase manufacturing capacity and efficiency to meet “ambitious” growth targets.
The recent expansion, StatLab says, represents a commitment to “empower” the Newtown site to support growth in European markets, accommodating increased manufacturing volume and product support teams to ensure the best possible customer experience.
The new 30,000-square-foot facility combines manufacturing, warehousing, and office spaces under one roof, with former buildings being repurposed to meet the growing demand of the CellNass tissue archival service.
During the launch day, visitors toured the new, state-of-the-art injection moulding production areas and high-tech customer experience laboratory featuring a wide variety of histology equipment showcasing the full workflow of products and equipment supported.
Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Party politician for Montgomeryshire, attended the opening event as a special guest, along with the Mayor of Newtown Cllr Mike Childs, Deputy Mayor Cllr Margaret Lewington, and Chief Executive Officer of StatLab, Sung-Dae Hong.
“After touring the facilities in Newtown, you begin to realise the scope and impact CellPath and StatLab have in providing products to the pathology market,” Mr George said.

“The opening of yet another facility for the company is a milestone moment as they continue to expand their enterprise and provide hospitals and laboratories with the equipment and consumables they need.”
Mr Hong added: “This site expansion reflects our vision of delivering high quality products and providing unparalleled customer service as we continue expanding into new markets.
“I look forward to witnessing CellPath’s continued growth as we expand our footprint in Europe.”
UK Managing Director Lindon Hett said: “While the operational benefits of our expansion will undoubtedly improve our ability to deliver continued growth, the opening today symbolises the dedication and collaboration of our employees and their commitment to our customers and our business.
“I'm grateful for their support, as well as the guidance and resources of the broader StatLab organisation.”
