Pupils from a Powys primary school excelled for the second year in a row at a country-wide engineering competition.

Forden Primary School, near Welshpool, walked away as prize winners for the second year in a row at the annual Primary Engineer competition ‘If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do?’.

Nine pupils from the school were invited to the competition’s awards ceremony in Cardiff, with Year 5 pupil Bailey Barnbrook winning the judges award for his design.

OTHER NEWS: 

The competition invites pupils from primary schools across Wales to imagine if they were an engineer, what problem would they most like to solve and submit their designs to the programme.

As well as conceiving of a design, pupils in the competition are asked to create their own detailed explanation about their idea, use persuasive techniques to appeal to the judges and demonstrate how they have refined their ideas over time.

Nine pupils from Forden, named as winners or runners up in each year group. were chosen to attend the competition’s awards ceremony.

At the ceremony, Bailey won the judges award for his design of a door-mounted scanner which is programmed to recognise if you have everything you need as you leave your house in the morning.
