There's still time to join the Builth Wells Charity Aquathlon for £10 - and support Cancer Research UK in doing so.

Scheduled for Sunday, August 11, the event can only accept 99 participants, so individuals keen on participating are encouraged to act fast.

Every penny from the entry fee will go directly to the cancer charity, thanks to corporate support received.

Mayor of Builth Wells, Cllr Gwyn Davies, who has even donated from his mayoral allowance, showed his enthusiasm.

Cllr Davies said: "I think it's a fabulous event and I encourage as many people as possible to take part to raise money for such an amazing cause."

Co-organized by Helen Tuite, the event consists of a 16-length, 400m pool swim, and a just under two mile, 3k run around The Groe.

Participants must be 18 or older by December 31, 2024.

The charity event also allows participants to fundraise, adding to the donation going to Cancer Research UK.

MsTuite said: "We are trying to encourage those people who haven't taken part in an event of this kind before to have a go; that's why we've kept the distances relatively short.

"You can do any stroke in the swim and can walk the 3k if you're not able to run.

"Plus, if participants want to raise sponsorship as well, that would be great, as that means even more money will go to Cancer Research UK.

"We're hoping that if it's a success, we could make it an annual event, and incorporate younger participants next year."

Medals will be on offer for all participants and awards for different age groups; refreshments are also available.
