AN element of a Powys man’s court order has been removed due to the good progress he has made since appearing in court.

James Byrne, 40, was handed a community order by Chester Magistrates Court in September 2023, which included attendance on what is called a ‘thinking skills’ programme.

Welshpool Magistrates’ Court heard on Tuesday, July 9, that Byrne, of Oldford Rise, Welshpool, had engaged well on the order, with the probation service bringing forward an application to remove the programme due to Byrne finding employment.

“The application is to vary the order and remove the thinking skills programme,” said probation officer Julian Davies.

“The 12-month order has seen him attend 29 appointments, he has completed his 10 rehabilitation activity days and engaged well with all aspects.

“He has demonstrated an improved awareness and utilised the support, finding employment.

“Programme attendance now might have a significant impact on his employment.”

Magistrates said they were “more than happy to go along with that” and the application was granted.
