Rattus is delighted with one of Kier Starmer’s first cabinet appointments making James Timpson the prison’s minister.
The prisons are in a dreadful state and overcrowded. It interferes with and delays justice.
Though public protection is the first priority, many prisoners should not be there.
Short term prison sentences almost guarantee re-offending and a life of crime.

James Timpson, of the Timpson Group, which provides key cutting and shoe repair services, has made a name for himself hiring hundreds of former prisoners. He was chairman of the Prisons Reform Trust.
This is inspirational leadership from our new PM. Prisons, like most ministries, require someone who really understands the problem, rather than a procession of egotistical politicians.
Rattus wishes the new minister good luck. He will need it.
