The 1st Machynlleth Scout Group is looking for any interest in leading the group as some of its leaders are moving on to new ventures and will be less available to give their time to the group.

One of the group’s leaders Julieann Evans issued an appeal via social media, where she praised the current leaders as “fantastic” but noted that the group would soon be in need of new volunteers.

She said: “For the last few years we have had a fantastic leadership team in the scout section but sadly in September we will all have new adventures and will not be able to volunteer as we have been.

OTHER NEWS:

“After nearly eleven years of running the section I feel it is time for me to step back as Scout leader to assistant over the next year and help support new leaders to come forward.

“We need a few adults who can commit to supporting the weekly sessions. You don’t need to know everything just the enthusiasm to support young people to have adventures and learn the skills in order to achieve them.

“We as leaders didn’t know much about scouting but have had an amazing time finding out and there is some mandatory online training to help you too. Nick and I are happy to support the sessions and help build up new leaders' skills for the next year. Each session needs three adults to open. You are welcome to come in and chat to us and get an idea of what it is all about.

“We have achieved so much as a voluntary group, and we have so much more we can do. We will have a full section in September with 24 scouts and an area camp at GYB in October but without support the section will close on July 17 until further notice.

“Over the ten years I have seen the difference Scouting has made to young people and adults confidence, self esteem, sense of achievement, resilience, team work, problem solving skills and positive well being.

“Please help us to continue to make to make scouts happen in our community because if we have enough adults come forward we can reopen the second week in September.”
