ALMOST 100 pupils from Llanelwedd Church in Wales Primary School took part in a series of sellout performance of Peter Pan last month.
The pupils took to the stage at Wyeside Arts Centre on June 26 and 27, with a whole school cast of 92 children taking part in what was an experience they will never forget.
The production was very much a team effort with every member of staff and every child playing a full part.
The children, as young as 4, helped design and make the scenery, props and costumes. The older children took the lead roles with a number of them performing solos; and for many it was their first time on stage.

“Putting on a school play is always a lot of fun and a lot of hard work,” said headteacher, Adam Shearman.
“Putting on a school play involving 92 children would fill any film director with fear and dread. “However, the team at Llanelwedd, as always, rallies to make the magic happen.
“Our staff have worked so hard with costumes, scenery, props and rehearsing and I cannot thank them enough for going above and beyond for our school.
“It has been a number of years since we have performed as a whole school. Having taken time out for the older children to experience Shakespeare at the Willow Globe and, of course, the years affected by Covid.
“We were over the moon when our friends at the Wyeside agreed to have us back for our fourth ‘Wyeside Collaboration’. The children have worked so hard to bring Peter Pan to the stage.”
Mr Shearman added: “We are all very proud of how they have approached this production.
“Some royalties go directly to Great Ormond Street hospital as beneficiaries of JM Barrie’s estate. We are also donating any money made directly to the Wyeside to help ensure this amazing facility has a long and happy future here in our locality.
“The Wyeside is a fantastic facility and Jill Mustafa, the general manager, and her team have been so welcoming and supportive of this project and we cannot thank them enough for their hospitality.
“The children all enjoyed the opportunity with many already asking what our next play will be.
“Although such a large scale production is an incredible amount of work, seeing the children perform and seeing the audience’s reaction made it all worthwhile.
“I am immensely proud to be headteacher of this wonderful school and by offering opportunities like these among strong academic experiences we can ensure that our children have every opportunity while with us.”
