We asked the candidates in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe what would be their top priorities if they were elected as your MP.

Ahead of the vote on July 4 the candidates gave their views on the local issues they wish to tackle.

Here are their responses in alphabetical order:

Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party - Jonathan Harrington

Mr Harrington did not respond our request for a comment but the party has previously said: “Jonathon has a significant track record in farming issues and is our agricultural spokesperson”

Conservative, Fay Jones

Ms Jones has also not responded to our request for a comment. But when she launched her campaign she said: “I’ll be out knocking on as many doors as I can between now and then, talking to voters and reminding them of the choice we face: stick with a plan that’s working or gamble our future with a divisive, unprincipled Labour Party with zero ideas.

"I’m proud of my record - whether saving Brecon Barracks, fighting industrial scale wind farms or securing tens of millions of public investment in Brecon and Radnorshire - as well as serving thousands of constituents."

Green, Amerjit Kaur-Dhaliwal

Ms Kaur-Dhaliwal was another candidate who did not respond to our request for comment. She is an armed forces veteran and former deputy party leader of the Greens in Wales.

She has said she supports the ‘Right to Nature Act’ which would give natural entities like rivers the same protections that are afforded some companies and said “why can’t we respect that river like we respect ourselves” and added: “we're fighting for a Fairer, Greener Wales.”

Labour, Matthew Dorrance

“I will be a hardworking local MP at the service of our communities – a strong local voice standing up for all of Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe in Parliament.

“I would be campaigning for investment, jobs and opportunities for our communities to help deliver the change we need.

“The first priority of a UK Labour government will be to deliver economic stability and ensure that family finances are not hit like they were with the Tories mini budget.”

Liberal Democrat, David Chadwick

“Improving access to healthcare where we have been let down by both the Welsh Labour and the UK Conservative Governments.

“I would push for a rural GP premium to keep GPs in our towns and for extra dental funding to end the extreme waiting lists. But the number one issue has to be social care, and we are the only Party talking about it.

“We would make social care free at the point of use, boost the minimum wage for care & extend support for unpaid carers. Given we have an ageing population in Powys, fixing social care is vital.”

Monster Raving Loony Party, Lady Lily The Pink aka Nun of the above or below

“I’m a loony and it would be madness to vote me into office.  However, if I did get elected the party would immediately kick me out for not being Loony enough, my first priority would be to stand up and cross the floor.

“Seems like that’s the process in parliament if your seat looks like it might be removed.  Isn’t that what they do in Westminster, play musical chairs?"

Plaid Cymru, Emily Durrant-Munro

Ms Durrant-Munro also did not respond to our request for comment but has previously said: “The Conservative Government in Westminster has deprived Wales of billions of pounds of funding since Brexit, including slashing funding available for Wales’ agricultural budget by hundreds of millions of pounds.

“Welsh Labour has handled the introduction of a Wales farming scheme poorly, losing the trust of the farming community. This is a planetary crisis and it will involve some change, but pushing farmers and people out of rural areas is not the answer.”

Reform UK, Adam Hill

“I stand for supporting and improving the rural way of life by ensuring that we don't lose access to healthcare, education and police support.

“If elected my main priority would be constituents access to me I will hold surgeries all over Brecon Radnor and Cwm Tawe regularly and hear your issues.

“I will then use the wait of my office to get our people a desirable outcome.”
