More than any other I can recall, this election campaign demonstrates the pathetic level of political discourse.
Meretricious ideas picked from the bran tub, anything you can do (or cut), I can do (or cut) better, issues like tax inflated when surveys show that only a small percentage of the public identify tax as one of the most important things.
Fantasy savings, fantasy costs. Serving MPs who should already have high standards and be warned to keep them up, and candidates who should be given a stiff talking-to before standing.

I don’t want to just hear what you will do for ‘working families’, I want to hear what you will do for the non-working - those who can’t find work to accommodate their disabilities, not allowed to work like asylum seekers, the retired who don’t want to work because they have done it all their lives, those who can’t find work full stop - and how you will address the glaring income inequalities in British society.
I don’t want to hear how you will pull the drawbridge up higher than other parties to keep people out - I want to hear how you will help make their own countries safer with more incentives for them to remain.
I do want to hear how you will use international statesmanship to work towards world peace.
I don’t want to hear how many more prisons you are going to build because prison doesn’t work for so many people and perpetuates the cycle of re-offending.
I do want to hear parties taking climate change seriously and preparing for adequate, meaningful action right now.
Last but not least, I don’t want to hear any more divisive language whether around race, gender, age, class or any other labels which deny our common humanity.
