This comes after windy conditions in the area yesterday evening, which likely led to the tree falling.
A member of the public who was travelling on the train confirmed on a post on social media that “thankfully everyone is ok”.
Transport for Wales are advising that while the train has now been recovered, passengers should check on updates on the website in case of any further disruption.
A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: “Birmingham International struck tree between Welshpool and Shrewsbury and was unable to continue due to the damage.
“Our teams attended and were able to move the train shortly before 9am.
“Services have resumed but there is still some disruption on the route and passengers are advised to check for the latest information before travelling.”
