THE case of a man accused of jointly inflicting grievous bodily harm on a Powys man in Rhayader has been delayed yet again.

James Demaio, 35, is jointly accused with Joshua Davies, 19, of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Paul McCarley in Rhayader on June 28, 2022.

Demaio, who is on remand at HMP Peterborough following his arrest after failing to attend an initial hearing at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court, was present via videolink at a hearing at Merthyr Crown Court on Friday, June 28.

Will Forber-Heyward, representing him, said: “Legal aid has been granted this week and efforts have been made to instruct council in Merthyr, but efforts have been unsuccessful thus far.

County Times:

“I’ve not had the chance to have a meaningful conference with the defendant, while a timetable has already been set down for his co-defendant.”

Mr Forber-Heyward asked for an adjournment of a plea and trial preparation hearing until July so that he can take full instructions from Demaio.

Judge Paul Hobson adjourned the case until July 19, where a full plea and trial preparation hearing is expected to commence.
