More than 160 people took on Machynlleth’s 5K Colour Run as the event returned for its second outing.

In the lead up to Machynlleth Carnival, organisers have held several fundraising events, with the most popular from last year returning to the town for a second time on Sunday, June 23.

The fundraiser saw people tale on a 5K course around the three playing fields, around the park and in front of Y Plas and the Leisure Centre, being covered in coloured powder as they ran.

Jasmine Browne, one of the run’s organisers, said: “This year, we initially aimed for 100 participants, but the overwhelming demand led to us doubling the number of sign-ons compared to the previous year.

“This remarkable growth is a testament to the collective effort of our community. With over 30 marshals and numerous volunteers, the event showcased Mach's community spirit and our shared love for the carnival.

“As a voluntary committee, we knew dedicating our time to planning this new event would be a significant commitment.

“We did a trial of the event in 2023, attracting an incredible 80 participants in its first year, making all our hard work worthwhile. Having so many families travel from all over Mid Wales to enjoy the event is what the carnival is all about.”

Several other fundraising events are in the works ahead of the big day later this summer, such as Carnival 5-A-Side Football for both adults and children on July 21, followed by a quiz night at the White Lion Hotel and a town-wide treasure hunt during the week.

Jasmine added: “Our small team is already gearing up for the next set of events. We have a busy schedule ahead, all leading up to the grand celebration on July 27, Carnival Day.

“The festivities will kick off with a samba band and live music at the town clock. This year's theme is open, and we are eager to see the creativity in everyone's costumes.

“The success of our events is a true reflection of the community's spirit and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing even more participation and excitement in the coming weeks as we prepare for Carnival Day.”
